Grant And Sherman

In this Civil War biography, Charles Bracelen Flood examines how the working relationship between Ulysses S. Grant and William Tecumseh Sherman facilitated the Union victory. Educated at West Point, the two men first worked together in the West, where they were known for aggressive tactics, winning victories at Vicksburg and Shiloh. Appointed general-in-chief of the U.S. armies, Grant gave Sherman full command of the Army of the Tennessee, thus setting up the famous march to the sea, an incredibly destructive campaign through Georgia seen by historians as either brilliant or brutal--or possibly both.
